Children Learn What They Live
(By Dorothy Law Nolte, PhD)
If a child lives with criticism,
The child learns to condemn.
If a child lives with hostility,
The child learns to fight.
If a child lives with ridicule,
The child learns to be shy.
If a child lives with shame,
The child learns to feel guilty.
If a child lives with tolerance,
The child learns to be patient.
If a child lives with encouragement,
The child learns confidence.
If a child lives with praise,
The child learns to appreciate.
If a child lives with fairness,
The child learns justice.
If a child lives with security,
The child learns to have faith.
If a child lives with approval,
The child learns self-esteem.
If a child lives with acceptance and friendship,
He or she learns to find love in the world.
